Short Encounters by Mario Sughi

by sabine7 / September 3, 2010
for
mocoloco

"Do not be deceived by the saturated colours in Mario Sughi's latest illustrations, as they are but false promises of envy-provoking days, nights and lives. This playful (or is it cheeky?) portrait of a society that is not without temptation dazzles with its bight lights and sharp lines. The candy colours are a front for A New Sense of Emptiness, also the title of Sughi's upcoming exhibition. Sughi makes us want to buy into this, but lets us know there is no product behind the display.

A New Sense of Emptiness runs Sept. 10 - Oct.23, 2010 at Greenroom Arts in Manchester."

nerosunero reviewed by Surreality Watch

"nerosunero's vivid style is said to bring back memories of David Hockney but I think (looking at the sexy "Dancing" poster) that there is a trace of good old Milo Manara in there, too. All this namedropping can be quite unfair: Mario's artwork conveys a unique flavor and his good-looking people and psychedelic landscapes form his own, distinctive universe. An enchanting, sensual universe that gets richer by a hidden sadness and a nostalgic touch. "

Artplanet (Florianopolis, Brazil, 1 June 2010)

"Mario Sughi is an Italian illustrator and cartoonist living and working in Dublin. His work is by definition – Abstract. His minimalist and modern style of strong geometric shapes and outlines have been presented on exhibition catalogs, international magazines, art galleries and the author of nerosunero. The most intriguing thing about his work is the subject content – strange scenes and situations that really let your imagination go for a walkabout."

Dublin 14 05 2010
Le Cool Group Exhibition at

www.southstudiosdublin.com/

Press Release:
Just under a year ago Dublin’s outlet for the supercool event listing Le Cool opened and in only 12 short months 7,000 people are being guided to the hippest haunts, galleries, clubs, gigs and getting a sense of the people living here with interviews with those setting the world alight. This FRIDAY sees them take off their virtual facade for one night only with a special first birthday event at South Studios. Music, cover art from the year’s mailers and Smirnoff cocktails ahoy. Even if the creatives involved go along alone (Keith Walsh, Ruan van Vliet, Lauren Crothers, David Delahunty, Gaetan Billaut, Aidan Weldon, Loreana Rushe, Mario Sughi, Shane O’Driscoll, Jon Cheung, Isabel Reyes Feeney, Brian Coldrick, Niall Sweeney, Synth Eastwood, Richard Gilligan, Dave Comiskey, Paddy Lynch, Stephen Ledwidge, Dragana Jurisic, Stephen McCarthy, Alan Clarke, Gary Farrelly, Jamie Saunders, Trevor Finnegan, Faye George, Raul Arantes, Eleanor Reilly, Fergal McCarthy, Aaron Brady, Justine Le Guil, Niall O’Brien, David Turpin, Owen Kane, Aisling Farinella, Tamara McCarthy and Sean & Yvette from South Studios) it’s going to be crazy. If they bring friends it’s going to be mental. Le Coolest party in ages.

The show is also open to the public to pop down 11am - 5pm this Saturday so bring the kids!
